Denise Hicks Brown, Esquire

Denise Hicks Brown, Esquire joined Conklyn & Kemp as an Associate Attorney in 2020.  She received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, in San Francisco, California.  She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia.  

Prior to joining Conklyn & Kemp, Ms. Hicks Brown served as a Staff Attorney at Heartly House, Inc. providing legal services to victims of domestic violence in Frederick, Maryland.   Before relocating from the West Coast to the East Coast, Ms. Hicks Brown worked in Thoratec Corporation’s in-house Legal Department.  She also served as a Law Clerk in both the Marin County Public Defender and San Francisco Federal Public Defender’s Offices.  In addition, she served as a Law Clerk at the Law Offices of Nancy E. Hudgins.
 
Ms. Hicks Brown is an active member of the Bar Association of Frederick County (BAFC), the Maryland State Bar Association (MSBA), and the American Bar Association (ABA).  Specifically, Ms. Hicks Brown is the current Chair of the Young Lawyers Section of the BAFC.  She also serves on the Budget and Finance Committee of the MSBA and is a brief grader for the ABA's National Appellate Advocacy Competition (NAAC). Ms. Hicks Brown is also a 2018-2019 MSBA Leadership Academy Fellow.  She is licensed to practice law in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
